Tagged Deleted Scene: Chapter 38

How exciting is it to read deleted scenes from a novel and try to guess why they never made the cut?

Like, super duper exciting, of course.

Have fun!

It wasn’t really fair to watch something that I wanted dance without me. It wasn’t very fair at all. I woke up shortly after talking to Will only to find Platonic directly in my room with his arms crossed. I didn’t expect to hide it from him. I had told him of my fascination when I first asked him to give me heiss. I knew the risks of that move. I was trusting the most infamous sniper with my personal life. I think he only agreed to meet me in person because he was interested in my parenthood and because we kept running into each other. Once I got far enough away from Visions and stopped crashing all their games, I realized that every sniper there ever was at one time or other ran into Platonic, and if he was nice enough to let those horrible people live, he’d let me live as well. That was my reasoning for meeting him anyway.

Not many people could ever say that they saw this man face to face like I was doing currently. He was the best there was, and if I had done a little more research, I would have realized why before I agreed to meet him. What could I say? I was desperate for heiss again. He, on the other hand, wasn’t desperate for it. He had helped create the machines that allowed the virtual games to exist. He was the first ever sniper and he spent his time monitoring for other snipers. Normally when a sniper saw him or even thought they did, they would run. I had never been told to do that so I hadn’t. Once he realized that I could see waves without overloading my body on heiss multiple times to achieve the result, he agreed to help me. He wanted me to help him spot emerging snipers. I was rather good at just that. I gravitated towards them naturally anyway. It hadn’t taken me very long at all to find William and Seb. I had been looking for them desperately unable to live with myself without knowing what happened with Sebastian.

“I heard all of that,” Platonic told me. “Don’t play stupid and pretend you didn’t know I was there. I know exactly where they want you to go. They expect you to show up too. The idiots.”

“You have to admit that it would be enticing to my parents,” I answered, wiping at my eyes because as much as I wanted to show up, I didn’t think Platonic was going to allow it. I felt like I had sold my soul to the devil. It would take Hercules to get me back from that.

Nick was going to let my dad develop games for him in exchange for “keeping me safe.” My parents were very worried about me again. I had seen them several times, but hadn’t let them see me. I had seen them meet with Platonic and heard his lies. He told them that if he saw me, he would send me back home to them. He claimed that he had not ever seen me apart from running into me when I worked for Visions. He had spotted me a few times then. He told my parents to stop using heiss and compromising their location. He promised that he would take care of my runaway situation for them. They were still looking every now and then, which meant that they were moving again, circling around cities with heiss trying to find me. I didn’t think they believed him.

“Need I remind you that Sebastian is dead, Millie?” Platonic asked me.  “If he shows his face outside of Visions in anything other than sniper mode, your uncle will come kill him and he won’t care what you think about that. He has to keep up his reputation. He’s probably planning some elaborate scare on Seb’s life right now that will shake Casper to pieces and force Seb to quit before he gets started.”

I nodded. I had wanted to see Seb more than anything, but my uncle would find out soon if he hadn’t already. He’d do something against Seb’s family that would make him crumble. The plot was probably already in place just waiting for Seb to jump at heiss again.

“But Seb was in sniper mode,” I told Platonic sighing despite the protest. I was about to sink back into the dreams myself and start killing Seb’s avatars before my uncle could. I didn’t think that it would really scare him right away, but I couldn’t risk my uncle coming to really kill him. “Can I just call Will?” I asked Platonic. “Please. I couldn’t stand it if Seb dies.”
